Service Program

Becoming a brother in Alpha Phi Omega is not joining a service organization, nor is it joining a service group on the weekends. Brothers in Alpha Phi Omega have made it their life long purpose to serve and help people that may be less fortunate than you. It is not about the act of helping or of volunteering; rather it is having the drive to need to do these things. Leo Tolstoy said, “The sole meaning of life is to serve humanity,” and that is what we have chosen to do. By becoming a part of this national organization, you are willingly choosing to lead a life not based on money or greed, but rather based on committing yourself to the service of others. Mahatma Gandhi tells us, “The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.” What better way to find out who you really are than to serve others along with friends and colleagues that want nothing more than to help humanity.

The Tau Mu Chapter of Alpha Phi Omega bases itself on four fields of service:

· SERVICE TO THE FRATERNITY: These are service projects that directly benefit the members of the chapter. This can be through leadership workshops, conferences, academic support groups, and National Day of Service. These are times when brothers can be together to support each other.

· SERVICE TO THE CAMPUS: These are events that directly influence the campus and students of the school at which this chapter is located. Such projects as campus clean-ups or helping students on move-in day would be considered as this type of service.

· SERVICE TO THE COMMUNITY: These events include projects that benefit the community and its residents. This is where most of the physical work happens. Service to youth, especially the Scouting movements, is a special area of consideration, as well as work with families and groups that have low income.

· SERVICE TO THE NATION: These projects are events in which the chapter develops projects that have an impact beyond the campus and community. Many of our charitable fund-raising events and coin drives go along in this area.

All in all, we are a service Fraternity that stands by one of our cardinal principles of Service. This is why most of our members join, and because of this we can take advantage of it and use this potential to do some very rewarding service projects around the campus, community, and nation. Come on out. It will change your life.
