BGSO meeting minutes

Aug 2004

On Friday, August 27th, we held the first BGSO meeting of the year, with 22 in attendance (see what free food can do?).

Ali Meyers called the meeting to order with a reminder of the back to school bbq Saturday, August 28th from 3 to 7 at Riverfront Park.

*In order to be a member of BGSO, you must attend at least two functions ore meetings per semester.

*FYI, SCA 310 is a graduate student lounge with key-card access, contact Betty Loramm to have your card activated.

*Jeannette reported on the Seminar and Faculty Committees. A new genetics instructor has been hired, the department will hire 2 genetics/cell bio profs, a physiology prof, and a general instructor this year. For more info about how to be on the search committee, contact Jeannette Wentworth. The graduate student-invited seminar speakers are Drs. Lynn Branch and Stephen Kajiura, who will talk about giant chinchillas and hammerhead sharks, respectively.

*The Eco Area committee has set up a website, contact Dr. Fox for info. *Tatiana Cornelissen and Amanda Baker are calling for Brown Bag presenters!

*Lisa's treasurer report: We received less than half our requested funding, therefore, we need to fundraise! Ideas: Personalized carabeners/bottle openers (yay, multifunctionality!) in the shapes of turtles ($5), sharks ($5), and lobsters ($6). Lobsters in red, sharks and turtles in blue, green, red, black, or purple. We need money in advance, contact Susie Hilber, Lisa Whitenack, Ali Meyers, or me (Katie Basiotis) to order. ALSO, we have approx. 8 medium and 1 XL biology t-shirts left priced at $12 (student), $15 (fac/staff). We'll reorder more sizes when we have an interst form, contact the officers to sign up.
