I chose my position,
because I really enjoyed being Historian last
year, but it just didn't feel
like enough for me. I wanted something
more.
I
wanted to feel like I was able to interactive with people at a
much higher
level. I wanted to be a better leader. One of the things
that
inspired me
the most was when I went to my first regional
conference in Atlanta in
February of 2006. I was surrounded by
people who were much more successful
than me and much more
intelligent than me. There were a number of
workshops that I
attended while I was in Atlanta and they were all very educational.
Some helped me to better prepare for the GRE (or at least know what to
expect) and some helped me know, on a much deeper level, what it took to be
a great leader. I was in awe and it was almost a bit depressing at
first...
until I realized that I could be in that same position! From that day, I
wanted to be at that top and to know what it felt like to have that kind of
power and to be able to use it in a positive way.
I expect great
things for Golden Key this year! I expect to maintain our Gold Status, but
I also expect people to be able to make connections in our organizations.
Not only do I expect these "connections," but I hope that people will be able to
further form friendships from these very connections. I hope that Golden
Key will be a place for people to turn when
there may not be anyone else there. I hope that Golden Key will be an
outlet for people to share there thoughts, feelings, and concerns about
anything. As busy as people are, I hope that they understand that
any event they can make it to means involvement. I never want anyone to
feel as if they cannot show up for an event or social because they didn't
show up for a meeting or some other event that they simply could not make it
to. We welcome everyone to be involved as much as their schedule permits!
