Cultural Diversity Awareness Series

2009 Spring Performances:

AMERICAN VOICES

If you missed their first performance, then you definitely don't want to miss the second!! Full of surprises and diversity, so be sure to catch it! The producers [and the Office of Multicultural Affairs :) ] that brought you 'Faces of America' - the first truly multicultural portrayal of Americans ever created - now present the second in series of One-Person Shows, "American Voices", a brand new creation based on nine real-life stories and recollections of "true" Americans. Written from the suggestions and interviews of Americans across the country, this widely acclaimed play speaks to the attitudes, beliefs and hopes of Americans in the face of a new millennium. This riveting one-person play addresses the concerns of ethnicity, eating disorders, sexual orientation, religion and socio-economics. In this 65-minute live play, you will hear the diverse and engaging voices of characters from various ethnicities and social backgrounds - each with his/her own issue. For instance, a Gay American questions whether or not he can be a Christian, while an African American is on death row trying to make clear the injustices of the American legal system. These are accounts of where diversity lives and breathes; the reality of diversity; and how this diversity is a part of us all!
