Leadership Positions


Officer elections are currently closed. However, those interested are encouraged to look over the necessary credentials needed for any position. Elections are typically held in April of the current school year. Applications will not be taken until elections are formally announced.

Officer Descriptions

President- Must be a member of Premed AMSA for at least 2 years before being considered for election into this position. Presides at all general meetings, officer meetings, and special meetings. Appoints and oversees organizational functions and acts as the primary university liaison. Assists the Treasurer in the preparation of a budget for his or her term of office by June 1. Serves as a chapter delegate to the Premedical Caucus at AMSA’s National Annual Convention every March (or selects a surrogate if he/she chooses not to attend).

Vice President- Must be a member of Premed AMSA for at least 2 years before being considered for election into this position. Must be an aide to the President. Assumes the duties of the president without election, in case of absence or disability of the president. Oversees the coordination of all projects. Oversees the coordination of all projects.

Secretary- Must be a member of Premed AMSA for at least 2 years before being considered for election into this position. Keeps a written record of all meetings ( general membership meetings, executive, etc. ) in order to provide the chapter with a record of issues discussed, problems posed, ideas raised, and of the people who participated in group discussion for benefit of the chapter and its members. Recites or resummarizes the record of minutes for approval by the membership. Records minutes to be “open” to all members. In case of absence, has a substitute appointed that day by any member of the executive board.

Treasurer- Must be a member of Premed AMSA for at least 2 years before being considered for election into this position. Presents a budget and a tentative schedule of fundraising activities for the finance of the chapter with approval needed by the president by June 1st. Supervises day-to-day expenditures of the chapter. Makes sure the chapter does not assess any liabilities. Makes sure money is spent wisely and in a manner that suits the purposes of the chapter. Responsible for depositing money into the organization account and writing membership checks to national AMSA for each member.

Webmaster/Historian- Maintains and updates the Premed AMSA website. Takes pictures or has someone take pictures at all Premed AMSA events. Organizes pictures and creates a scrapbook for the term.

Director of Public Affairs- In charge of the list-serv and the Premed AMSA account (usfpamsa1@yahoo.com). Arranges for guest speakers to be present during the general meetings.

Director of Membership- In charge of keeping and organizing the lists of members as they join and as their membership expires. Organizes membership drives during the first two weeks of each semester (Summer A/C, Summer B, Fall, Spring). Is responsible for giving lists of members to the sponsors by the third week of each term. Is in charge of making membership cards and applications. Responsible for filling out and sending member applications and dues to national AMSA.

Director of Community Outreach- Is in charge of organizing and creating volunteer opportunities on campus and within the community for the general membership. Is in charge of keeping track of all the volunteer hours logged in by Premed AMSA members at all activities. There are establishes events that the director will be responsible for, such as Shriner’s. The Director of Community Outreach will be in charge of the Community Outreach Committee. The director will need to setup meetings with his or her committee to execute existing projects and to plan new ones. The Director of Community Outreach will serve as the liaison between the Community Outreach Committee and the other Premed AMSA officers.

Director of Medical School Forum- Will be in charge of the MSF Committee responsible for planning and executing Premed AMSA’s Medical School Forum, which occurs annually. Will need to contact representatives from the various medical schools within Florida and out-of-state. Responsible for setting a date and reserving a location for the MSF as well as establishing and agenda for the forum. Will serve as the liaison between the MSF committee and the other Premed AMSA officers.

Director of Charity Events- Responsible for selecting a charity to raise money for by the Fall semester and for setting a fundraising goal for that charity. Responsible for planning and executing fundraising events throughout the year.

Director of Educational Programs- Will be in charge of the Educational Programs Committee. The committee is responsible for planning mini-forums and discussion panels for such medical issues such as, but not limited to, Breast Cancer Awareness, HIV/AIDS epidemic, safe sex, and political and ethical issues concerning healthcare. Will be responsible for the planning and execution of the Preventative Health Forum. Will be responsible for coming up with ways to collaborate with other student organizations on campus. Will serve as the liaison between the Education Programs Committee and the other Premed AMSA officers.

Director of Social Events- Responsible for planning and executing monthly social events for the general membership. In charge of the Social Events Committee. Will serve as the liaison between the Social Events committee and the other Premed AMSA officers.

Director of Physician Shadowing- During the summer will create relationships with physicians in the community to prepare for the school year. Responsible for creating a program where general members will be able to shadow physicians in the community during the fall and spring semesters. In charge of the Physician Shadowing Committee.  Will serve as the liaison between the Physician Shadowing committee and the other Premed AMSA officers.
