INTERFRATERNITY COUNCIL

The Interfraternity Council, or IFC, is the governing organization that promotes fraternities on the USF campus. The role of the council is to insure that each fraternity follows and adheres to rules set forth by the University of South Florida and the Interfraternity Council.

The council is also responsible for informing fraternities on intramural and scholastic standings, as well as upcoming USF functions such as Homecomingquicklink: Homecoming 2001 - ctr.usf.edu/homecoming and Greek Week. The Interfraternity Council plays an important role in the planning and execution of a successful membership recruitment process.

The council is responsible for new member° recruitment and registration for interested individuals. Registration° is important because you must be registered before you are allowed to accept a bid° from a fraternity. Potential new members are able to register for membership recruitment prior to and on Information Night, which is held on the first day of rush° in the Spring and Fall semesters.

NATIONAL PAN-HELLENIC COUNCIL

National Pan-Hellenic Council is the governing organization of historically black fraternities and sororities. Each semester, National Pan-Hellenic Council sponsors information nights regarding their membership process. Because of the chapters’ different membership processes, incoming freshmen are not eligible to join. Students who are interested in joining may do so after completing 12 credit hours at USF and must have at least a 2.25 grade point average.

All students who are interested in National Pan-Hellenic fraternities or sororities are encouraged to participate in Multicultural Week of Welcome. During the orientation, students have an opportunity to meet members in various fraternities and sororities. Multicultural Week of Welcome is held one week before the start of classes.

PANHELLENIC COUNCIL

The Panhellenic Council is the governing organization that represents and promotes the sororities and their activities at the University of South Florida. Sorority membership recruitment begins with Information Night. At Information Night, the student will be introduced to the sororities and the week-long recruitment schedule. It is very important that students register° prior to this Information Night. Panhellenic Council recruitment is held one week before the start of classes in the Fall. Spring recruitment is different because sororities can only extend bids° if there is space available in their chapter. The best opportunity for sorority involvement is through formal membership recruitment in the Fall.

UNIFIED GREEK COUNCIL

The Unified Greek Council is the umbrella organization formed to unify a diverse set of Greek organizations with similar goals and purposes, while appreciating their uniqueness and value to the campus community. The primary purpose is to unite its member organizations in order to share ideas and resources, promote mutual respect and equality, provide a support network for involved students and collectively accomplish these goals. The membership recruitment process for each organization in the Unified Greek Council varies.
