This is the official announcement of the ACF Fall Tournament to be held on Saturday, November 3, 2001 at the University of South Florida in Tampa. This is a packet-submission tournament with all packets submitted to the tournament editor, Kelly McKenzie, at ksmcke0@hotmail.com.

FORMAT: Teams need to submit packets that consist of 30 tossups and 30 bonuses. Be sure to consult the ACF Question Writing Supplement at:

FEES: Base fee: $85

Packet received by:

  • Sept. 7: -$20
  • Sept. 21: -$15
  • Sept. 28: -$10
  • Oct. 12: no penalty
  • Oct. 19: +$15
  • Oct. 24: +$25
  • No packets after Oct. 24 unless arranged prior with Kelly

Equipment discounts:

  • Buzzers: -$5 per working buzzer
  • Competent readers: -$10 each
  • Multiple teams: -$5 for B teams, -$10 for each subsequent team
  • "New" teams: If your school did not compete at ACF Regionals or Nationals in the last two years, you will not be required to write a packet, and will pay a flat fee of $50.

Minimum fee (with all discounts): $50

Cancellation penalty: There is a $25 fee for any team that registers but then cancels or fails to show for non-emergency reasons without notifying Jeremy Rasmussen (jeremycec@hotmail.com) or Rob Fernandez (rfernand@chuma.cas.usf.edu) at least 2 days in advance.


Schedule: (Updated as of Nov. 2, 2001)

  • Team check-in from 7:30 - 8:15 a.m. in Marshall Center, Room 101
  • Rules meeting from 8:15 - 8:30 a.m. in Room 101
  • Games from 8:30 a.m. till Noon. Lunch from Noon till 1:00 p.m.
  • Games resume from 1:00 till 5:00 p.m.
  • We will play a full round-robin. The team with the best record will be declared the champion. In the case of a tie at the top, the teams will play a one-game playoff. Otherwise, tie-breakers are as follows: head-to-head, total points.
  • Awards Ceremony immediately following.
  • Questions available afterward for $20/Set

From I-75, take the Fowler Ave. exit, turn west on Fowler and proceed approx. three miles to the University entrance. From I-4 , take the Columbus Drive/50th Street exit and proceed on 50th (becomes 56th Street after one-half mile) for approx. seven miles, turn west on Fowler Ave. to the University entrance. Click

USF is approximately one mile from Busch Gardens and Adventure Island, and about 70 minutes from Walt Disney World. It is also within 45 minutes of the Gulf Beaches.


HOTEL INFO:

  • The Embassy Suites Hotel, directly on campus, recently announced a special rate as well. Call (813) 977-7066 and ask for the "USF Rate" of $99/night for a deluxe suite.
  • Amerisuites (11408 N 30th St, Tampa, FL 33612) has also chimed in with a nice deal. If you call (813)979-1922, and mention the "USF Rate", you can get a suite with 2 double beds and a pullout sofa for $72.00/night.
  • We also have a deal with Baymont Inns & Suites (9202 N 30th St. Tampa, FL 33612). If you call (813)930-6900 and mention the "USF Quiz Bowl" special, you can get a rate of $60/night (a savings of $49). Baymont has a nice pool area, free continental breakfast, and is located directly across from Busch Gardens, and is 1.7 miles from USF.
  • Best Western Suites Hotel (3001 University Center Drive, Tampa, FL 33612) is also offering a special rate of $99/night. Their rooms are all suites, and can sleep up to six people. They also have a full hot complimentary breakfast. Each room also has La-Z-Boy recliner, refrigerator, coffee maker, microwave oven, and two remote-controlled color cable TVs with HBO, video player, stereo, hairdryer, iron and ironing board.
