USF presents the Third Annual
Fall Novice Tournament
at the University of South Florida, Tampa
Details:
  • Where: USF-Tampa Campus, 4202 E. Fowler Ave., Tampa, Florida.
  • When: Saturday, November 23, 2002
  • Format: Questions of NAQT-regionals level difficulty for 1st- and 2nd-year players.* No Packet submission is required.
  • Contact: Jeremy Rasmussen, (813) 972-6845. Jeremy will be doing all of the pre-tournament planning and coordination. Ahmad Ragab will be the Tournament Director (TD) on site the day of the tournament.
  • Deadline: Register by November 16, 2002.

* Questions will be written for first/second year quiz bowl players. Masters are welcome as coaches and moderators.
Tentative Schedule:

1. Check-in is from 8-9 a.m. in the MARSHALL CENTER, ROOM 101. If you have not paid already, payment is due at check-in time. Official receipts will be issued.

2. Question sets may be purchased for $15; you will receive a hard copy of all the questions at the end of the tournament (soft copy may be emailed afterward as well).

3. Rules announcement will be at 9 a.m. in Room 101. The basic plan is to run 20-question games, untimed. Normal ACF-style QB rules will be in effect (10 point toss-ups, no power marks, -5 wrong interrupts, all boni worth 30 points, etc.)

4. Tournament format: 24-Teams, divided into three divisions. Each team will play full rpund robin within its division.

5. This year, lunch will be provided! We will have pizza and soft drinks. Donations are welcomed.

  • We also have a deal with Baymont Inns & Suites (9202 N 30th St. Tampa, FL 33612). If you call (813)930-6900 and mention the "USF Quiz Bowl" special, you can get a rate of $60/night (a savings of $49). Baymont has a nice pool area, free continental breakfast, and is located directly across from Busch Gardens, and is 1.7 miles from USF.
  • Best Western Suites Hotel (3001 University Center Drive, Tampa, FL 33612) is also offering a special rate of $99/night. Their rooms are all suites, and can sleep up to six people. They also have a full hot complimentary breakfast. Each room also has La-Z-Boy recliner, refrigerator, coffee maker, microwave oven, and two remote-controlled color cable TVs with HBO, video player, stereo, hairdryer, iron and ironing board.
