WOW Event Objectives

With the purpose of energetically engaging all USF students; USF’s Week of Welcome (WOW) will encourage their active participation in the community by exposing them to opportunities for involvement and interaction with their peers, faculty, and staff. WOW helps new students feel at home and comfortable in unfamiliar surroundings. In order to support this purpose, WOW has objectives that your event must meet. Please review the objectives and make sure that your event is intentionally designed to meet at least one of these.

Please indicate which objectives your WOW event is intentionally designed to meet:

* You must choose at least one.

Students will be given the opportunity to connect with fellow students, the campus and the community, which includes:

Create a social atmosphere in which new students will form connections and make lasting relationships at their new school.

Expose all students to campus organizations, the USF community, local businesses and resources on and off campus.

Provide all students an opportunity to learn more about how to get involved in a variety of interests.

Strengthen the student connection to the university and the broader communities through engagement and involvement.

Students will be introduced to academic and campus resources, which includes:

Formally welcome new students into the academic culture of the institution.  Introduce academic expectations and prepare new students for what to expect in the classroom.

Provide opportunities for all students to meet and interact with USF faculty and staff.

Familiarize new students with the campus environment and physical surroundings.

Students will be encouraged to increase their awareness, which includes:

Introduce new students to important issues (i.e. personal safety, financial responsibility, etc.) they may encounter during their time at USF.

Expose all students to the diversity present on campus and show them how to get involved with people from their own and other cultures.

Develop new students' understanding of their responsibility as a college student within the campus and community (i.e. making healthy choices, academic integrity, etc.).

Event Classification

To assist students that are new to USF each event in the brochure is classified into one of three categories. Please indicate which classification you would like your program to receive:

Campus Tradition

To help highlight for new USF students key USF & WOW traditions some events will be classified as a Campus Tradition. If your event has previously had this classification then it continues to be a Campus Tradition event.

All Campus Tradition events meet the following criteria:

  1. Sponsored by a USF department.
  2. Free and open to ALL students.
  3. Meet the diverse needs of USF students.
  4. Department agrees to market their program beyond the WOW brochure (postcards, flyers, etc – marketing must be paid for by the department).  WOW signature mark must be visible on all additional marketing materials.
  5. Allow WOW Street Team Leaders to make WOW announcements and do a couple prize giveaways at the start of event OR roam the event as "prize patrol".
  6. Have hosted the event at least 2-3 times during past WOW weeks and proven to be a well-organized and highly attended event.

Multicultural Welcome Week Event

MCWW is coordinated through the Office of Multicultural Affairs to host and support cross-cultural programs and events. These events promote relationship building between incoming and returning students and exposure to our diverse student body in a fun and welcoming environment for all Bulls!

On-Going Event

This classification is for events that are a service or series that will occur more than 3 times during the week. These events may be published in the WOW brochure in a special "on-going events" section instead of having separate postings for each day.

WOW Event

If your event does not fall under any of the above three categories you should select the WOW event classification.  Please note that the majority of events will fall under this classification.

Deadline

WOW event forms must be submitted no later than 5pm on Friday, July 13, 2012. Whoever is listed as the event sponsor on this form will be contacted if there are any problems with their submission or if their submission did not meet the outlined requirements. The event is officially approved when it is posted to the online WOW schedule. Please note that processing does take some time (approximately 48-72 hours, Mon-Fri), so approval will not be instantaneous.
